Burlington, Colorado — August 17, 2026 — Richards Carrington is pleased to announce that partner Jeffrey M. Cure has been appointed to serve as a judge of the Kit Carson County Court, effective August 7, 2026. Cure was appointed by Colorado Governor Jared Polis to serve the residents of Kit Carson County and bring his extensive legal experience and longstanding commitment to the Eastern Plains to the bench.
In addition to his service as a judicial officer, Cure will continue his role as a partner at Richards Carrington. Cure joined Richards Carrington as a partner in 2025 as the firm expanded its presence in Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas. His addition strengthens the firm’s ability to serve agricultural communities throughout the region, particularly in the areas of agribusiness, transactional matters, trusts and estates, and complex legal issues affecting farmers, ranchers, landowners, and rural businesses.
Cure brings more than 17 years of legal experience to his new judicial role. He is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska and has developed a practice grounded in the unique legal and business needs of rural and agricultural communities.
A lifelong member of the Eastern Plains community, Cure grew up working on his family’s farm near Burlington. He graduated from Burlington High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver and his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. In addition to his legal career, Cure owns a crop insurance agency and, together with his wife, Sara Cure, operates a corn and wheat farm in Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas. His firsthand experience in agriculture has provided him with a distinctive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the region’s farming and ranching communities.
Cure’s appointment is emblematic of a legal career dedicated to serving Eastern Colorado and its agricultural communities. His work at Richards Carrington follows years of collaboration with the firm on matters throughout the Eastern Plains, and his partnership with the firm is part of Richards Carrington’s broader commitment to expanding access to experienced legal counsel for agricultural clients in the region.
“We congratulate Judge Cure on this well-deserved appointment,” said the firm. “We are confident that his experience, judgment, and deep connection to the community will make him an outstanding addition to the Kit Carson County judiciary.”
Richards Carrington is proud to celebrate Cure’s appointment and his continued commitment to public service. The firm extends its congratulations to Judge Jeffrey M. Cure.
